How to Heal Family Wounds During This Season
The holidays and special seasons often bring families together, but for many, they can also reopen old wounds. Whether it's misunderstandings, past hurts, or unresolved conflicts, God calls us to a higher way—one of forgiveness, grace, and restoration.
1. Start with Self-Reflection
Before pointing fingers, take a moment to examine your own heart. Jesus said, “Why do you look at the speck of sawdust in your brother’s eye and pay no attention to the plank in your own eye?” (Matthew 7:3, NIV). Healing begins when we allow the Holy Spirit to show us areas where we may have contributed to division, even unknowingly.
2. Choose Forgiveness
Forgiveness is not always easy, but it is necessary for healing. Jesus reminds us, “He that is without sin among you, let him first cast a stone.” (John 8:7, KJV). None of us are perfect, yet God offers mercy freely. When we extend that same grace to others, we break the chains of bitterness that hold our families captive.
3. Pray for Healing and Unity
Take your family to God in prayer. Ask Him to heal the pain, soften hearts, and restore relationships. Scripture promises, “He heals the brokenhearted and binds up their wounds.” (Psalm 147:3, NIV). God is able to bring peace where there has been pain.
4. Be the First to Take the Step
Sometimes healing begins when one person decides to reach out. You don’t have to wait for an apology to show love. Romans 12:18 encourages us, “If it is possible, as far as it depends on you, live at peace with everyone.” Make that call, send that message, or offer that hug.
5. Keep Christ at the Center
Remember, our example is Jesus, who forgave even those who hurt Him most. When we allow His love to flow through us, we become instruments of His peace in our families.
This season, let healing begin in your home. May love, forgiveness, and grace fill every conversation and every gathering.
